A year ago today I took my first of two beta blood tests to see if I'm pregnant. Having to go down to Indy by myself, I decided to take a pregnancy test the night before so not to endure a 3 hour drive there and back and just wonder. Knowing Chad may disapprove of taking it early, especially for fear of a negative or false negative result, I took the test while he wasn't home. It was POSITIVE; my very first positive result! I was excited but tried not to be too excited knowing that it could be wrong. When Chad returned home, I told him he had to go to the bathroom...so exciting.
I left at 5:00 am to make it to Indy in time for my 8:00 appointment. The drive to Indy was much easier to handle knowing that THIS could be it. When it came time for the blood test, the phelbotomist asked if I had taken a test. I shyly said yes...we were told not to take a test because they can be wrong. Anyhow, when I told her the result, she smiled and said it was a good sign. ....WHEW!
The appointment took all of 5 minutes. Out the door I went breathing a sigh of relief, but yet anxious about beta #1 numbers. The numbers had to be a certain range. So I went to work just trying to get through the day and hoping for good numbers.
Evening came. Beta #1 results were in the 700 -900 range, I don't recall. Beta #2 blood draw would be the real test to see if the pregnancy really took. Two days later, Beta #2, my numbers should double.
